Speeding Ticket is a personal project that documents my travel in the late-fall of 2019. Shot entirely on a low-end, digital point-and-shoot camera, the project was an effort to allow myself to exist in the photo-space of the American West. As a child, I was captivated by the West through my family travels there, and the movies that I loved. As an adult, driving west through Texas and New Mexico, I was confronted with an obviously different, modern West.
With Speeding Ticket, I had no intention of besting the works of the many great photographers and filmmakers who have captured the West or its spirit. Nor would I relive my childhood imagination and memories of the West. Instead, this project aimed to free itself of those very burdens. The resulting images were shot almost entirely from a moving car and intentionally edited as little as possible, if at all.
